Theme 1: Exposure in Heterogeneous Urban Areas

Urban air pollution causes a spectrum of health effects, resulting in significant impact on public health. Major man-made sources of ambient air pollution include industry (power generation, petro- and agrochemical industry, consumer products manufacturing) and transportation (land traffic, ships and vessels, airplanes). The transport and fate of- and potential exposure to these pollutants are affected by Israel's climate and meteorology as well as by specific exposure factors, such as Israel’s high population density and the close proximity among residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

Current TCEEH research under this theme focuses on detection, quantification, and estimation of exposure to traffic related air pollutants: VOCs, NOx, and PM, considering exposure modifiers that result from the unique Israeli character and accounting for different health outcomes.
