Decontamination of toxic residues on surfaces via in situ photo-oxidation

The use of hydroxyl radicals to decontaminate chemical warefare agents (WA) on surfaces is being investigated. In-situ formation of the short lived radicals using UV light and humidified air is being optimized to decontaminate the organophosphate pesticide profonofus, a VX surrogate. The results may provide an effective means to de-toxify warefare agents on surfaces without introducing surface damage.
